GMIF2026: AI Inference Powers 'Token Factory,' Demands Memory & Storage Rethink

The 5th GMIF Innovation Summit (Global Memory Innovation Forum 2026, GMIF2026) recently concluded in Shenzhen, China. A key focus of the event was the increasing demands of AI inference and its implications for system-level memory and storage design.

The conference addressed how the development of the "Token Factory" concept, related to efficient AI model deployment, requires significant improvements in memory and storage performance and architecture. Participants discussed the limitations of current solutions in meeting the needs of future AI applications.

Co-hosted by the Shenzhen Memory Industry Association (SMIA) and the School of Integrated Circuits at..., the summit emphasized how AI inference tasks necessitate faster data transfer and larger memory capacities compared to traditional computing.

Attendees concluded that the memory and storage industries must invest in research and development to create novel solutions supporting AI's rapid advancement. This includes exploring new memory types, enhanced data transfer technologies, and more intelligent storage systems.
