GOL Launches Nonstop Service Between Rio de Janeiro and New York
Brazilian airline GOL Linhas Aéreas has initiated new nonstop service connecting Rio de Janeiro and New York (JFK). This marks the carrier's first long-haul international route, expanding access for U.S. travelers to Brazil's domestic network.

GOL Linhas Aéreas, a major Brazilian airline, has launched its inaugural long-haul international route, establishing direct service between Rio de Janeiro (GIG) and New York (JFK). The flights commenced on July 8 from Rio and July 9 from New York, introducing a three-times-weekly connection operated by Airbus A330 aircraft.
The new route aims to facilitate travel for U.S. passengers, offering seamless connections to GOL's extensive domestic network within Brazil, including major cities like São Paulo and numerous other destinations. This expansion is GOL's first venture into long-distance international travel.
GOL CEO Celso Ferrer stated the service is an invitation for travelers to experience Brazil from the moment they board. The airline's Business INSIGNIA by GOL service on these flights features lie-flat seats and a dining experience curated by Michelin-starred Brazilian chef Felipe Bronze, focusing on regional flavors.
The operation also enhances cargo capacity between the two countries through a partnership with Avianca Cargo. Additionally, GOL's collaboration with American Airlines allows passengers to earn and redeem AAdvantage miles on eligible connecting flights across North and South America. GOL is part of the Abra Group, which consolidates airline brands in Latin America.
