GomSpace Launches GOMX-5 Satellite to Test Next-Generation Communications
GomSpace has launched the GOMX-5 satellite, supported by the European Space Agency, to test new satellite communication technologies and operational concepts in orbit.
GomSpace has initiated its GOMX-5 technology mission, designed to validate advanced satellite communication technologies, operational concepts, and mission procedures in orbit. The 8U CubeSat, supported by the European Space Agency (ESA), is scheduled for launch on SpaceX's Transporter-18 mission on October 1st.
The mission is expected to validate next-generation communication technologies that can benefit both commercial and institutional actors. GOMX-5 is built on GomSpace's modular platform, demonstrating the company's capability to deliver complete mission solutions from spacecraft design and integration to in-orbit operations.
The mission also supports sustainable space operations by demonstrating key capabilities for collision avoidance and responsible end-of-life disposal. This advances ESA's Zero Debris initiative, which aims to reduce space debris.
GOMX-5 builds on GomSpace's successful track record in developing small satellite technology. The company has previously demonstrated small satellites' ability to deliver valuable operational services, including maritime and air traffic surveillance in Arctic regions.
