Google Android Adds Local Backup Option for SMS and Call Logs
Google Android now offers an optional local backup for SMS, MMS, call logs, and device settings, moving away from automatic cloud synchronization for these data types.
Google has updated its Android backup policy, enabling users to choose local backup for SMS, MMS, call logs, and device settings, rather than relying solely on automatic cloud synchronization.
This change, observed starting with version 26.25 of Google Play Services, grants users more granular control over their data. Previously, these categories of information were automatically uploaded to Google Drive.
Users can now find these options within the Settings app, under 'Accounts & backup' and then 'Google backup'. Within 'Other device data', users can toggle local backup for SMS and call logs on or off.
Google has confirmed that the SMS and MMS backup will also include RCS messages. This adjustment provides users with enhanced flexibility and privacy in managing their device data.
