Google Launches Fitbit Air in India
Google has introduced the Fitbit Air fitness tracker in India. The device's high price point, however, may limit its mass market appeal.
Google launched the screen-less Fitbit Air fitness tracker in India on Wednesday. The device is priced at ₹13,999 (approximately $146), positioning it as a premium offering in the Indian market.
In comparison, the device costs $99 in the U.S. This significant price difference, roughly $47 more than its U.S. retail price, could deter widespread adoption in a price-sensitive market like India.
Unveiled in May, the Fitbit Air offers comprehensive health and fitness tracking features. These include 24/7 heart rate monitoring, heart rhythm monitoring with atrial fibrillation (AFib) alerts, blood oxygen levels, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, and sleep stages and duration.
The device's screen-less design aims to tap into the growing trend of distraction-free health gadgets. It competes in a space with offerings like Whoop's fitness bands and Oura's rings, though the Fitbit Air's higher price in India might hinder its competitiveness against other wearables.
