Google launches Googlebooks laptops starting at $899

Google has launched its new Googlebooks laptops, aiming to provide a "real" computer experience powered by Android.

Preorders for the devices begin on October 4, with prices starting at $899. This marks a significant step up from previous Chromebook models, which have typically been positioned as budget options.

The Googlebooks lineup features premium hardware, including bright OLED screens, metal builds, and large haptic trackpads. The devices also incorporate a "Glowbar," an illuminated strip on the lid, with plans to expand its functionality through a developer API in the future.

The company seeks to bolster its presence in the laptop market, an area where its success in smartphones has not fully translated to larger screens. Googlebooks intends to merge the mobile experience with robust computing capabilities.
