Google Maps AI Can Now Order Food for You

Google Maps' artificial intelligence assistant, 'Ask Maps', has received significant updates expanding its capabilities. Users can now ask the AI to order food, find and book hotels, and provide personalized suggestions that consider existing plans. The updates aim to reduce the need to leave the Maps application to complete various tasks.

The new 'agentic' capabilities allow the AI to perform more complex requests. For example, food orders can incorporate specific dietary needs, location context, and previously saved places. Google states users can ask the AI to find a restaurant based on particular criteria and then place an order without switching apps.

Miriam Daniel, head of Google Maps, noted that the new features "make it easier than ever to get more done." This development is part of a broader effort to integrate AI more deeply into daily applications, enhancing user experience and efficiency.

The enhancements position Google Maps as an increasingly comprehensive tool designed to anticipate and fulfill user needs directly within the mapping interface. The new functionalities are being rolled out globally.
