Google Opens Applications for South Africa AI Accelerator Program

Google has announced that applications are now open for its Google for Startups Accelerator: South Africa program. This three-month initiative is designed to support 15 growth-stage, AI-driven startups based in South Africa.

The program offers equity-free funding, technical mentorship, and access to Google's advanced AI technologies, including hands-on access to Gemini. This initiative is part of Google's broader commitment to support 50 South African startups between 2024 and 2028.

Selected startups will receive up to ZAR 1 million (approximately US$60,000) in equity-free funding, allowing founders to retain full ownership while accelerating their growth. The program specifically targets South African-led startups, particularly those owned or controlled by historically disadvantaged persons (HDPs), that are developing functional AI-driven products for local market needs.

Running from September 28 to December 4, the hybrid program will pair founders with mentors and AI specialists for one-on-one guidance on product, data, and operational challenges. The curriculum also includes product roadmapping, growth strategy, and goal-setting, connecting founders to a network of over 25 local alumni and Google's global Accelerator community.

Applications are open until August 28. This program aims to bolster South Africa's tech ecosystem and foster an inclusive, technology-enabled future for the continent.
