Google plans $15 billion datacenter expansion in Malaysia

Google has announced plans to invest $15 billion in Malaysia between 2027 and 2028 to bolster its local data center and cloud computing operations. The investment is intended to address the growing demand for digital infrastructure required to support artificial intelligence services in the region.

In addition to hardware deployments, the initiative includes funding for water security, power generation, and professional training for the local workforce. As part of this effort, the company recently pledged $160 million for water infrastructure in the Negeri Sembilan state to support future operations and surrounding communities. Google estimates that the campus developments will add approximately $1.1 billion to Malaysia's economy and support over 37,000 jobs per year.

Malaysia has become a primary data center hub in Southeast Asia, attracting major investment from firms including Oracle, Amazon, Alibaba, and ByteDance. These companies have cited the country's reliable infrastructure, cost efficiency, and geographic proximity to Singapore as key factors for their expansion plans.
