Google Play Allows Private AI-Generated Apps
Google Play Store introduces a new feature enabling users to create and use AI-developed applications privately, bypassing the need for public store publication.
Google has launched a new feature within the Google Play Store that allows users to create and run their own AI-developed applications privately, without the necessity of publishing them to the public store. This update enables users to leverage Google's AI tools for the creation of personal applications that remain accessible only to them.
The introduction of this feature stems from a growing trend of individuals using artificial intelligence to build applications tailored to their specific needs. Previously, such applications would have required publication on the Google Play Store, making them potentially accessible to the platform's approximately 3 billion users. This new capability lowers the barrier to entry for development and encourages experimentation with app creation on Android devices.
Initially, the feature is available to users aged 18 and over in the United States. Google also plans to expand this functionality in the coming months, allowing users to share their created applications with trusted circles of friends and family, bypassing public distribution. If a private app gains significant popularity, it can be transitioned to public release on the Google Play Store after undergoing necessary trust and safety reviews.
Google is also enhancing its app store recommendation engines with AI, including the "Game Finder" for personalized game suggestions. The store is further integrating AI through features like the "Ask Play" assistant for app comparisons and deeper integration with the Gemini conversational AI.
