Google has begun rolling out the Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 update to select Pixel smartphones, including the Pixel 6a and later models. The primary aim of this update is to enhance overall system stability and address known bugs.

The update, designated as Quarterly Platform Release 3 (QPR3), is part of Google's tri-monthly system releases. These updates typically include security patches, bug fixes, and minor feature optimizations. The beta version allows Pixel users to test upcoming functionalities and provide feedback before a wider public release.

One of the most significant fixes targets an issue with the fingerprint sensor that could cause the device to freeze completely after unlocking. The update also resolves a crash problem triggered by toggling the 'require eyes open' setting in face unlock. Furthermore, several connectivity issues have been addressed, including the loss of cellular service due to modem crash loops, silent disabling of eSIM profiles, and failed background reconnections for Wi-Fi.

The update also resolves problems related to video and media playback. Video calling applications will no longer experience 90-degree screen rotation issues when connected to external displays, and the screen recording function will not disable the front camera. For media playback, issues with audio output switching, Bluetooth disconnections with LHDC v5 devices, and crashes caused by non-ASCII tags in MediaPlayer have been fixed.

On the interface front, Google has corrected several visual glitches, such as misaligned mobile data icons, abnormal spacing in app menus, and blank recent app previews. Bugs related to home screen navigation have also been addressed.
