Google renames NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook
Google has rebranded its AI-powered research tool NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook as part of an ongoing strategy to unify its AI products under the Gemini brand. The update includes new interactive features.
Google continues its trend of consolidating its artificial intelligence products under the Gemini brand by renaming NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. The AI-powered research tool, first introduced as Project Tailwind at Google I/O in 2023, has seen significant user adoption, with 30 million users and over 600,000 organizations currently utilizing it.
Over the past few years, NotebookLM has evolved with features such as interactive podcast generation, curated notebooks, video overviews, and expanded support for various file types. Google also introduced an enterprise plan for the tool, indicating its growing commercial relevance and the emergence of competing services from other companies in areas like podcast generation and research tools.
The rebranding coincides with a significant update that transforms each notebook into a secure, isolated container. This allows users to generate code directly within the tool, enabling interactive outputs and complex data analysis by leveraging multiple data sources. This enhancement aims to provide a more dynamic and powerful research experience.
The new features are rolling out to users with the Google AI Ultra paid plan and Workspace business customers who have AI Ultra Access and AI Expanded Access. Pro users can expect to gain access in the coming weeks. Google has also indicated that users can already access their notebooks through the new interface.
