Google Reportedly Developing AirTag Competitor
Google is reportedly working on its own item tracker, potentially named 'Pixel Tag,' to rival Apple's AirTag. Information emerged from a leaked image and a Slovenian store listing.
Google appears to be developing its own item tracking device, potentially named the 'Pixel Tag,' to compete with Apple's AirTag. An image of the device, described as small and oval-shaped, was obtained by 9to5Google. A Slovenian store listing also reportedly detailed the gadget, indicating it uses Google's "Find My Device" network (now called Find Hub) and includes a speaker.
The emergence of the Pixel Tag comes shortly before Google's planned hardware launch event on August 12th. The company has already teased its Pixel 11 smartphone lineup for the event, with leaks also suggesting a new foldable phone, smartwatch, and earbuds are on the way.
This move by Google signals an intensifying competition in the smart device accessory market, where Apple's AirTag has established a significant presence. Other tech companies are also expected to introduce similar tracking solutions.
If launched, the Pixel Tag could further bolster Google's hardware ecosystem and offer consumers another option for locating lost items through its established device network.
