Google Reports First Negative Cash Flow Quarter Due to AI Spending
Google has reported its financial results for the second quarter of 2026, revealing its first-ever negative cash flow quarter driven by significant investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company's total revenue reached $119.8 billion.

Google announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2026, marking the first time the company has experienced a negative cash flow quarter. This downturn is attributed to substantial capital expenditures on artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
The search giant reported total revenues of $119.8 billion, surpassing analyst expectations. Search and advertising continued to be its largest revenue generator, bringing in $63.3 billion. Google Cloud revenue increased by 23.8 percent quarter-over-quarter to $24.8 billion, signaling strong demand for its AI services.
Additional revenue streams included $12.9 billion from its subscriptions, platforms, and devices portfolio, and $11.1 billion from YouTube ads. YouTube ad revenue saw a growth of over 12 percent from the previous quarter, partly due to the implementation of longer ad formats.
Despite strong revenue performance, Google's spending has increased dramatically, primarily to support its AI initiatives. When excluding non-cash earnings from investments, the company's operating cash flow was approximately $39.1 billion. However, the surge in AI-related expenses resulted in an overall negative cash flow for the quarter. The company's stock experienced a decline following the announcement.
