Google Selects Four Indian Startups For AI for the Planet Accelerator

Google has chosen four Indian startups to participate in its new Google DeepMind Accelerator: AI for the Planet (APAC) program, which aims to tackle pressing environmental challenges using artificial intelligence (AI) across the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

The selected Indian startups – Terrastack, Varaha Climate, Farmers for Forests, and Climitra Carbon – will join a cohort of 16 other startups in the program. Over the next three months, these companies will receive access to Google's latest AI technology, tailored technical support, and expert mentorship to scale their sustainability-focused solutions.

The program, which kicked off with a bootcamp in Singapore, aims to help startups, nonprofits, and research teams advance their ideas using frontier AI models like AnthroKrishi and AlphaEarth Foundations to address environmental issues. Google's involvement in India's climate initiatives also extends to solar energy, clean energy, agriculture, and research.

Google is also strengthening its presence in India through other climate-related initiatives. The company is expanding its AI-powered Solar API to cover 300 million Indian rooftops to automate solar panel system design. Additionally, it has entered into an agreement with climate tech firm Mitti Labs for carbon credit supply through 2030 and a long-term solar power agreement with ReNew Power to reduce supply chain emissions.
