Google tests Gemini AI calling businesses on behalf of users
Google is testing a new "Call for Me" feature that allows its Gemini AI to make phone calls to businesses. The feature will initially roll out to Pixel 11 owners in the U.S. who subscribe to Gemini.

Google has begun testing a new feature called "Call for Me," enabling its Gemini AI to place phone calls to businesses on behalf of users. This new capability is initially intended for Pixel 11 owners in the U.S. who subscribe to the Gemini service.
The feature requires a beta version of Google's Phone app and is still in an experimental phase. Gemini can handle more complex tasks, such as checking product availability, making restaurant reservations, or rescheduling appointments. Users can approve and share personal information for the calls, and they can monitor the conversation via a live transcript, with the option to take over at any time.
Google has a history of developing AI-assisted calling technology. Previous demonstrations showcased Google Assistant booking salon appointments. The "Ask for Me" feature, launched last year, allowed Gemini to inquire about services or pricing from businesses without direct user involvement.
With "Call for Me," Gemini can introduce itself, navigate automated menus, wait on hold, and then conduct the conversation. Calls are initiated directly from the user's phone using their own number, adding to the authenticity of the interaction.
