Google to Disclose AI-Generated Ads

Google is rolling out a new feature that will allow advertisers to disclose when their ads have been created or edited using artificial intelligence tools. Consumers will now see an indicator on ads where generative AI has been utilized.

The new label will be visible on ads within Google Search, YouTube videos, and Google Discover. Users can access ad information by clicking a three-dot menu or an info icon, which will now reveal whether AI was involved in the ad's creation or modification.

Google stated that ads created using its own generative AI advertising tools will have the disclosure automatically enabled. For ads created using other tools, advertisers must use a new control to indicate AI involvement; Google will not perform its own checks to verify AI use. In select markets, the label may also be applied due to local legal requirements.

This initiative aims to enhance transparency in digital advertising, helping users understand the origins of the ads they encounter. The use of AI in ad creation has grown due to cost efficiencies and creative possibilities, but it also raises questions about content authenticity.
