Google to Increase Prominence of Inline Links in AI Search Responses

Google is modifying how its AI-powered search results are presented, aiming to make inline links appear "higher up in responses more frequently." This change affects AI Overviews and AI Mode, which provide customized answers instead of the traditional list of links, according to a company blog post.

The update comes amid concerns that the AI-generated summary format is decreasing traffic to publishers' websites. Google stated it has made "continued and substantial increases to the presence of inline links in our AI experiences," and this latest adjustment will ensure "key sources are easily clickable right when you need them."
