Google's AI Mode Links with Select Apps for Task Completion

Google announced a significant expansion of its AI Mode, allowing users to connect and interact with select applications directly from its conversational search interface. This update moves the AI Mode beyond simply answering questions to actively completing tasks through integrated services.

Initially, the updated applications include Instacart for managing grocery lists, Canva for design ideas, and YouTube for playlist creation. For example, users can add items directly to their Instacart cart via Google AI Mode or generate flyer templates using Canva.

The tech giant aims to strengthen its competitive position against other AI services, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude, with these new integrations. Both rivals offer similar capabilities for performing tasks across third-party platforms.

The update is currently rolling out in the U.S., and Google indicated ongoing work with new partners for future app integrations. Google AI Mode has seen continuous development since its launch and recently added a feature to check product availability in nearby stores.

This new functionality builds on capabilities introduced earlier this year at Google I/O, which allowed third-party apps to connect with the Gemini app for faster task completion. Google has previously launched collaborative features with services like OpenTable and Spark.
