Google's Largest Clean Power Project Located Near Unpermitted Plant

Google has finalized its largest-ever purchase of clean energy, encompassing both solar power generation and battery storage. The project, situated in Arkansas, is located approximately 40 miles north of an unpermitted natural gas power plant constructed by xAI.

The first two phases of the project will introduce 1 gigawatt of solar capacity and 1.9 gigawatt-hours of battery storage. This initial capacity is expected to generate enough electricity to meet about 6% of Arkansas' peak demand. Google is investing in the project and has committed to purchasing its entire output for these phases, with Cypress Creek Energy serving as the developer.

Upon completion of all three phases, the facility is projected to become the largest solar power project in the United States. The electricity generated will be fed directly into the grid, offsetting the energy consumption of Google's data centers. This investment is part of Google's broader strategy to power its global operations with carbon-free energy.
