Munich will host the 24th annual congress of the Gesellschaft für Orthopädisch-Traumatologische Sportmedizin (GOTS), the German Society for Orthopedic and Traumatological Sports Medicine, from June 19–21, 2009. A press conference preceding the event on June 18 will focus on issues surrounding doping in sports.

At the press conference, leading sports medicine physicians will discuss the current topic of doping. Dr. Martin Engelhardt will report on doping problems in endurance sports, Prof. Philipp Lobenhoffer will address anti-doping education in medical training, and Dr. Hubert Hörterer will explain measures taken by organized association physicians in Germany.

The congress program will also cover topics related to sports injuries and diseases. Specific focus will be placed on hip and groin pain in athletes, osteotomies near the knee joint, and patellar instability. The awarding of scientific prizes and the naming of the Sports Physician of the Year are also scheduled highlights.

In addition to the Munich congress, GOTS will organize a symposium in Berlin on August 14, 2009, concentrating on the medical aspects of athletics ahead of the World Championships. This event aims to provide expertise on orthopedic and traumatological challenges across various track and field disciplines.
