Munich will host the 24th annual congress of the Gesellschaft für Orthopädisch-Traumatologische Sportmedizin (GOTS) from June 19-21, 2009. The event is expected to draw approximately 800 participants specializing in sports medicine, orthopedics, traumatology, physiotherapy, and sports science from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Key topics will include hip and groin pain in athletes, with a focus on hip arthroscopy and strategies to avoid hip replacement surgery. Problems related to groin hernias, particularly in football players, will also be discussed.
The congress will also examine osteotomy, a surgical procedure to correct leg alignment issues, aiming to preserve joints and enable continued athletic activity. Running-related injuries and overuse conditions will be extensively covered, alongside discussions on patellar instability and its treatment.
Further sessions will delve into emerging sports and their associated medical considerations. Presentations on new diagnostic and surgical techniques for the knee, shoulder, and ankle are also scheduled. The event will include the presentation of the Michael Jäger Award and the naming of the Sports Physician of the Year.
