Grand Rapids Housing Commission Featured on Public Television Program

The Grand Rapids Housing Commission (GRHC) has been selected for an upcoming Public Television segment on the series "All Access hosted by Andy Garcia." Filming for the episode, which focuses on GRHC's strategies for addressing housing affordability in West Michigan, took place on September 23, 2026.

The segment will detail GRHC's multi-faceted approach, which includes rental assistance programs, the development of affordable housing units, partnerships with community organizations, and resident-focused initiatives aimed at promoting long-term stability for low-income households.

GRHC provides housing assistance to thousands of households through various programs, including public housing and federally supported voucher programs. The commission also works with partners to preserve and create additional affordable housing stock. Currently, GRHC is collaborating with the research firm Econometrica on a Fair Market Rent study for Kent County to ensure federal rental assistance accurately reflects local housing costs.

Beyond housing assistance, GRHC offers programs designed to support residents' economic mobility and self-sufficiency, such as the Family Self-Sufficiency Program, homeownership assistance, and financial education. "Affordable housing requires more than one program or one solution," stated Lindsey Reames, Executive Director of the Grand Rapids Housing Commission. "Our work is about helping families access housing today, creating and preserving affordable housing for the future, and connecting residents with opportunities that support stability, mobility, and self-sufficiency."
