Graphite One Advances Environmental Review for U.S. Graphite Deposit
Graphite One Inc. will proceed with a comprehensive Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for its Graphite Creek project in Alaska, the largest known natural graphite deposit in the U.S. The company anticipates no delay to its planned 2029 production start.

Graphite One Inc. has confirmed that its Graphite Creek project in Alaska will undergo a comprehensive Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process, a decision supported by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The company stated it concurs with the determination and believes this approach will thoroughly address stakeholder concerns while maintaining transparency.
The company has prepared for an EIS-level review from the project's outset and anticipates no disruption to its targeted 2029 production startup. Graphite Creek, located on the Seward Peninsula, is recognized by the U.S. Geological Survey as the largest known natural graphite deposit in the United States. Developing this resource is key to establishing a domestic supply chain for battery-grade graphite, reducing U.S. reliance on imports.
"We fully support the Army Corps' recommendation to conduct a comprehensive EIS review. This approach ensures transparency and provides the opportunity for all stakeholders—including local communities, Indigenous groups, and regulatory agencies—to have their voices heard and concerns addressed," said Anthony Huston, President and CEO of Graphite One. He added that the company remains confident in its ability to deliver the project on its targeted timeline.
Leadership from Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC), a significant investor in Graphite One, also expressed support for the EIS process. BSNC shareholders, many of whom are Alaska Native residents living near the project, are expected to benefit from the additional regulatory clarity and opportunity for input provided by a full EIS review. Graphite is a critical material for electric vehicle batteries and other technology applications.
