Gray, Black, and White Remain Most Popular Car Colors in Germany

Gray/silver, black, and white maintained their positions as the most popular colors for new cars in Germany in 2024. According to data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt, KBA), these three colors combined represented 78.5 percent of all new passenger car registrations. This figure is a slight decrease from the previous year, when the share was 78.8 percent.

Premium brands such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW show a strong preference for these neutral tones. Over 35 percent of new Audi, Mercedes, and BMW registrations were black, followed by gray (over 30 percent) and white (over 10 percent).

Despite the dominance of neutral shades, some brands offer more colorful options. For instance, nearly one in five new Alfa Romeo registrations were red, although its popularity saw a slight decline from 2023. Skoda's blue car share also decreased compared to the previous year.

Green has retained its status as a trending color, albeit with a small market share. The proportion of green cars increased to 3.1 percent this year, up from 2.6 percent in the previous year. Among Porsche buyers, green was more popular than blue. Lamborghini owners frequently chose green (18.9%) or orange (5.2%), with some opting for purple (3.3%).

Less common colors like orange and purple remained unpopular. Only 0.4 percent of new cars were registered as orange and 0.1 percent as purple. These, along with other miscellaneous colors, constituted just 2.9 percent of the market. Yellow cars accounted for 0.9 percent, and blue cars for 8.9 percent.
