Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has added Dannia Altemimei as a shareholder in its Private Funds Group in the Chicago office. Altemimei joins the firm from competitor Sidley Austin.
Altemimei advises investment managers on the structure, formation, and operation of alternative investment products. Her expertise covers closed-end, open-end, and hybrid fund structures across private equity, real estate, private credit, venture capital, and liquid trading strategies. She also counsels clients on regulatory and corporate matters, including fund formation, securities, derivatives, and futures regulation, as well as trading and compliance.
"Dannia's combination of sophisticated private funds experience and extensive in-house leadership at a leading asset manager makes her an exceptional addition to the firm," said Peter H. Lieberman, Private Equity Practice Co-Chair. "She understands not only the legal and regulatory issues facing investment managers, but also the operational, commercial, and risk management considerations that drive decision-making."
Prior to joining Sidley Austin, Altemimei spent eight years in increasingly senior legal roles at Balyasny Asset Management, most recently serving as Senior Deputy General Counsel. In that role, she was responsible for fund formation, investor and side letter negotiations, and regulatory matters. She worked closely with legal and compliance teams, as well as portfolio managers.
Altemimei has been recognized for her work, named one of "50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds" by The Hedge Fund Journal in 2023. Greenberg Traurig is a global law firm with approximately 3,200 attorneys across 51 locations worldwide.
