Greenberg Traurig Attorney Ian Marx Named Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year in New Jersey
The New Jersey Law Journal honored Greenberg Traurig shareholder Ian Marx for his extensive pro bono litigation efforts during the 2026 New Jersey Legal Awards.

Ian S. Marx, a shareholder at the global law firm Greenberg Traurig, was recognized as the 'Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year' at the 2026 New Jersey Legal Awards held on October 30. The award honors legal professionals who dedicate significant time to public interest litigation and achieve meaningful outcomes for underserved populations.
Marx, a member of the firm’s litigation practice, has focused much of his pro bono work on wrongful convictions and the impact of unreliable witness identification testimony. He notably served as amicus curiae in high-profile cases before the New Jersey Supreme Court, successfully advocating for precedential rulings aimed at improving the fairness of criminal trials within the state.
His advocacy extends to representing victims of human trafficking, political refugees, and survivors of domestic violence. Marx frequently collaborates with organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey, Human Rights Watch, and The Innocence Project to address systemic legal issues.
In addition to the top honor awarded to Marx, the event saw further recognition for Greenberg Traurig’s New Jersey office. Attorney Clarissa A. Gomez was named a 'New Leader of the Bar,' and shareholder Raquel S. Lord was recognized as a finalist for the 'Best Mentor' award.
