Grundfos Halts Wahlstedt Operations; Staff Reductions Continue
Danish pump manufacturer Grundfos is continuing workforce reductions at its Wahlstedt plant in Germany's Segeberg district. Approximately 100 employees have already departed, with another 80 slated to leave by summer 2026.

Danish pump manufacturer Grundfos is proceeding with staff reductions at its facility in Wahlstedt, located in the Segeberg district of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The company initially announced its intention to close the plant approximately 18 months ago.
According to the company, around 100 employees have departed the Wahlstedt site to date, which previously employed 530 individuals. An additional 80 employees are scheduled to leave by the summer of 2026. The complete closure of the facility is anticipated by mid-2027.
Grundfos attributes the closure to evolving market conditions and economic factors, stating that the decision was necessary to maintain long-term competitiveness. The Wahlstedt plant had been in operation for over 60 years and was a significant employer in the region.
Local authorities are adapting to the plant's closure. Despite a noticeable decrease in municipal tax revenue, ongoing city projects have been able to continue. Some former Grundfos employees have found new positions with companies in the surrounding area, while others have accepted severance packages.
Grundfos has not provided specific details regarding the future use of the Wahlstedt site following its closure. The municipality hopes for an attractive successor to help offset the loss of tax revenue.
