GSK and CureVac Announce mRNA Technology Collaboration

GSK plc and German biotechnology company CureVac have entered into a strategic collaboration and development agreement focused on the research, development, and commercialization of vaccines and monoclonal antibodies targeting infectious diseases. The collaboration will extend GSK's existing mRNA capabilities by integrating them with CureVac's platforms.

As part of the agreement, GSK will make an equity investment of £130 million (€150 million) in CureVac and provide an upfront payment of £104 million (€120 million). The companies will combine their expertise to develop mRNA-based treatments for infectious diseases that cause significant morbidity and economic burden.

mRNA technology is a rapidly advancing area in drug development, enabling faster development and manufacturing of new vaccines and medicines. The technology allows the body's own cells to produce specific proteins or antigens, which stimulate the immune system to fight or prevent diseases.

CureVac's role in infectious disease research and development is based on its mRNA technology and manufacturing capabilities. GSK's role in the collaboration encompasses further development and commercialization. The partnership aligns with GSK's R&D focus on the science of immunology.
