GSK to invest $30 billion in US R&D and manufacturing over five years

GSK plc has announced plans to invest $30 billion across the United States over the next five years, with a significant portion allocated to research and development and supply chain infrastructure.

A new $1.2 billion investment will fund advanced manufacturing facilities, including a biologics flex factory in Upper Merion, Pennsylvania. Construction is slated to begin in 2026, with the facility focusing on medicines for respiratory diseases and cancer.

The investment also includes the deployment of artificial intelligence and advanced digital technologies across GSK's five existing manufacturing sites in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maryland, and Montana. The company will also enhance its capabilities in drug substance manufacturing and device assembly, including auto-injectors.

GSK anticipates that the U.S. will become its top global hub for research, development, and clinical trials over the next five years. In the past 12 months alone, GSK has committed approximately $2 billion in new U.S. manufacturing investments, including an $800 million facility expansion in Pennsylvania that began construction in late 2024.

These investments are expected to create hundreds of highly skilled jobs, supplementing GSK's current U.S. workforce of approximately 15,000 employees.
