GSK to Train Over 9,000 Health Workers in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria

GSK plc announced plans to support the training of over 9,000 frontline health workers in Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria during the next three years. The initiative marks a significant step in the company's strategy to improve healthcare access and foster economic growth in Africa.

The £5.85 million investment will be channeled through partnerships with Amref Health Africa, the One Million Community Health Workers Campaign, and Save the Children. These programs aim to strengthen local health systems by equipping healthcare professionals to manage both infectious diseases and the growing burden of non-communicable diseases, as well as improve maternal and child health.

In Kenya, GSK will support Amref Health Africa's efforts in managing diabetes and childhood asthma by training 2,500 healthcare workers. In Ghana, the One Million Community Health Workers Campaign will receive funding to train 1,800 health workers, aiming to impact the health of nearly one million people. In Nigeria, Save the Children will focus on building the capacity of 5,000 frontline health workers to enhance access to essential care for mothers, newborns, and children.

This new program builds on GSK's previous work supporting health worker training in least developed countries. Since 2009, GSK and its partners have trained 25,000 health workers, reaching 6.5 million people. The current initiative expands these efforts into regions of Africa where health inequalities persist.
