GSK transfers rights to drisapersen back to Prosensa

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Prosensa Holding N.V. announced on January 13, 2014, that Prosensa has regained all rights to drisapersen from GSK, terminating the collaboration agreement signed in 2009.

Prosensa will now hold full, unencumbered rights to continue the development of drisapersen and all its other drug programmes for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). The companies stated that Prosensa is best positioned to advance these programmes.

The parties also agreed to share data from drisapersen studies with the scientific community to further understanding of DMD. GSK noted that further analysis of drisapersen data may benefit from being viewed in the context of Prosensa's work on other programmes.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a severe, progressive neuromuscular disease affecting approximately 1 in 3,500 live male births. Drisapersen, a drug candidate that has undergone significant clinical development, has received orphan drug status in multiple jurisdictions.
