GSK's independent consumer healthcare company to be named Haleon

GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK) announced on February 22, 2022, that the new company formed from the proposed demerger of its consumer healthcare business will be named Haleon. The name, pronounced "Hay-Lee-On", is derived from the Old English word "hale" meaning "in good health" and "leon", associated with strength. The branding will be deployed in over 100 markets.

Haleon is set to become a new global leader in consumer healthcare, boasting a portfolio of category-leading brands including Sensodyne, Voltaren, Panadol, and Centrum. The formation of Haleon follows eight years of strategic changes and integrations, including portfolios from Novartis and Pfizer. The business generates approximately £10 billion in annual sales.

"Our name is grounded in our purpose to deliver better everyday health with humanity and to be a world-leader in consumer healthcare," stated Brian McNamara, CEO Designate of Haleon. GSK CEO Emma Walmsley added that Haleon has enormous potential to improve health and wellbeing globally, with its listing expected to unlock significant shareholder value.

The standalone company is positioned to capitalize on strong demand in the £150 billion consumer healthcare sector, driven by increased focus on wellness and an aging population. Haleon is expected to achieve a premium listing on the London Stock Exchange in mid-2022, with ADRs to be listed in the US. The company's headquarters will be located in Weybridge, UK.
