GSK's RSV Vaccine Candidate Data Published in New England Journal of Medicine
GSK plc announced the publication of positive Phase III clinical trial results for its respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine candidate in older adults in the New England Journal of Medicine.

GSK plc has announced the publication of positive Phase III clinical trial results for its respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine candidate in adults aged 60 and above in the New England Journal of Medicine. The publication confirms the candidate's efficacy against RSV-lower respiratory tract disease, including in those with comorbidities who are at increased risk of severe outcomes.
RSV is a significant infectious disease for which no vaccine is currently available for older adults, a demographic disproportionately affected by severe illness. The data presented represent the first peer-reviewed Phase III results for an RSV vaccine in this age group. GSK anticipates making the vaccine available in 2023, pending regulatory approvals from the US, EU, and other countries.
"Our ambition is to protect the many older adults at risk from RSV disease, including those with underlying health conditions, who account for the majority of severe RSV outcomes," said Tony Wood, Chief Scientific Officer at GSK. He added that the company is pleased to have these "exceptional data" published and looks forward to the vaccine's timely availability.
GSK is continuing its research to expand its vaccination program to include adults aged 50-59 with underlying conditions and to evaluate annual revaccination schedules and longer-term protection. The company expects further data from these ongoing studies in 2023.
