GTA 6 Expected to Exacerbate PS5 Pro Shortage Until 2027

The upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in November 2026 is expected to worsen the scarcity of Sony's PlayStation 5 Pro consoles, with shortages projected to continue until 2027 due to high demand and global component issues.

The highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in November 2026 is poised to intensify the shortage of Sony's PlayStation 5 Pro consoles, with supply issues now predicted to extend into 2027, according to reports.

A primary driver for the increased demand is that GTA 6 will initially launch exclusively on PlayStation 5/Pro and Xbox Series X/S platforms. This, coupled with recent successful releases like the PS5 exclusive Marvel's Wolverine which has sold over 2.16 million units since its September launch, is straining inventory.

Sony has notified distributors that "short-term market supply tightness and high demand" will continue to impact PlayStation 5 Pro availability. A significant contributing factor is the global crisis in memory and storage components, dubbed "RAMageddon," largely driven by the escalating demand for AI infrastructure.

The PlayStation 5 Pro, initially priced at $700 upon its November 2024 launch, offers enhanced 4K graphical processing and higher frame rates. The console's market value has surged, with listings on auction sites reportedly exceeding $1,100.
