GTA 6 Marketing Campaign Faces Opposition in Miami
Planned marketing initiatives for Grand Theft Auto VI in Miami-Dade County have drawn criticism from local officials concerned about the game's violent themes and potential impact on the area's reputation.

Proposed large-scale marketing efforts for the upcoming video game Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) in the Miami area are facing opposition from local officials.
Reports indicate that Miami-Dade County was in discussions with executives from Rockstar Games, the developer behind GTA, for a significant marketing collaboration. The proposed campaign included billboards, "Welcome to Vice City" signage at the airport, and themed decorations on the Metromover transit system. Miami-Dade County serves as the real-world inspiration for the game's fictional "Vice City."
Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosi Esther Cordero-Stutz publicly voiced her opposition. In a statement, she highlighted that the Grand Theft Auto series centers on criminal activities such as murder, robbery, and drug trafficking, precisely the issues her office works to prevent daily. She argued that promoting a game based on such content conflicts with law enforcement's mission.
County Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez echoed these concerns. Bermudez emphasized the decades of effort invested in building Miami-Dade County's reputation as a destination for tourism, business, and investment. He expressed worry that promoting a fictional version of the county defined by crime and violence could undermine the positive image established over years of hard work.
