GTA6 Launch Trailer Did Not Use QSSR Technology, Analysis Suggests
Digital Foundry analysts suggest the Grand Theft Auto VI launch trailer did not utilize Sony's QSSR technology. The raw footage is estimated to be 1440p, upscaled to 4K.
Gaming analysis firm Digital Foundry has suggested that the launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI did not employ Sony's AI-based QSSR upscaling technology. Despite Rockstar Games promoting the PlayStation 5 as the optimal platform for the game, analysts believe the trailer's raw footage was rendered at 1440p and then upscaled to 4K during post-production.
Sony introduced QSSR (Quick Super Resolution) earlier this year for standard PS5 consoles. The technology aims to enhance game visual details and stability using AI, and it has been implemented in titles such as Marvel's Wolverine and The Spirit of the Mountain.
Furthermore, Digital Foundry posits that Rockstar might have used reverse tone mapping techniques to create HDR visuals from SDR source material. The company may have also utilized an AGX tone mapper to achieve color shifting effects in the trailer.
Analysts emphasize that their findings pertain specifically to the recently released trailer. They do not rule out the possibility that the final game version could incorporate QSSR technology, and that the trailer material might have been from an earlier development stage.
