Guangzhou South Railway Station in China achieved a significant milestone on October 1st, processing a record 1.049 million passengers. This makes it the first railway station in Chinese history to surpass one million passengers in a single day.

The figure surpasses previous daily records for the station and highlights a substantial volume of travel, particularly with 641,000 passengers departing on the same day. This occurred during the combined Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday period, which typically sees high demand for tourism and family visits.

The Chinese railway network had anticipated high passenger volumes for this holiday period. Up to 13,000 passenger trains per day were scheduled to operate during the transport duration to accommodate the increased demand.

Railway authorities implemented several measures to boost capacity. These included adding nighttime high-speed train services and sleeper trains, coupling multiple trainsets to increase high-speed services, and adding carriages to regular trains. Specifically, nighttime high-speed trains were increased on key routes such as Beijing-Shanghai, Beijing-Guangzhou, and Beijing-Harbin.
