Guaranteed income advocates secure key electoral wins in U.S.

Several members of the Mayors for a Guaranteed Income (MGI) and Counties for a Guaranteed Income (CGI) networks successfully transitioned to higher offices following recent U.S. elections. Among the notable victors are former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, elected Governor of Georgia, and several mayoral and local government leaders who secured seats in the U.S. Congress.

The election results highlight the ongoing political debate regarding household affordability. MGI founder Michael D. Tubbs stated that the wins demonstrate a voter appetite for direct cash assistance policies, which proponents frame as a pragmatic response to the current cost-of-living crisis.

Beyond candidate elections, voters in Baltimore approved the creation of a guaranteed income program for new parents. Meanwhile, in Washington state, voters rejected a measure that would have repealed a tax on high earners, thereby protecting funding for the state’s Working Families Tax Credit.
