Guerbet Introduces New Microcatheter to Reduce Embolization Risk
Medical device company Guerbet is presenting a new microcatheter design aimed at minimizing the risk of non-target embolization in interventional radiology.

Guerbet, a company specializing in medical imaging contrast agents, has developed a new microcatheter system designed to address the issue of non-target embolization.
Non-target embolization occurs when embolic material enters unintended blood vessels, posing a significant challenge for interventional radiologists and potentially leading to severe complications. Guerbet's new microcatheter, which received CE marking in April, features side-holes that utilize fluid dynamics to create a vortex. This vortex acts as a barrier, preventing reflux of embolic material and thereby reducing the risk of non-target embolization.
Interventional radiologist Irene Bargellini highlighted at the ET conference that understanding vascular anatomy, proper catheter positioning, and selecting the correct embolic material are crucial for risk reduction. New devices like Guerbet's microcatheter offer additional tools to manage this challenge.
Guerbet has a history of introducing solutions to improve imaging and interventions. The company focuses on developing products that enhance patient care and minimize procedure-related risks.
