Guerbet, a global specialist in contrast agents and solutions for medical imaging, reported its revenue for the first quarter of 2019. Sales reached €197.3 million, marking a 7.7% increase from the previous year, including a favourable €1.9 million forex impact. At constant exchange rates, revenue was €195.4 million, up 6.7%.

In Europe, Guerbet achieved double-digit revenue growth of 11.6% at constant exchange rates. This growth was largely driven by strong sales in Germany and Turkey. The United States also saw continued upward trajectory in sales, with no generic Dotarem launches yet.

Revenue from the Diagnostic Imaging business increased by 6.2% to €170.9 million at constant exchange rates. The MRI segment grew by 6.1% to €66.4 million, supported by Dotarem® performance. The CT/Cath Lab segment reported €101.7 million, a 6.7% increase, with Optiray® sales improving.

Interventional Imaging revenue totaled €16.2 million at constant exchange rates, an increase of 18.4%. The company noted good momentum in this segment, and new microcatheters, DraKon® and SeQure®, have obtained CE marking for distribution in Europe.

Guerbet reaffirmed its outlook for moderate sales growth in 2019. While the direct distribution switch in Japan will benefit Dotarem, the introduction of generics in other countries will have a negative impact. Growth is expected to continue, driven particularly by Optiray® and the upcoming introduction of new microcatheters in the Interventional Imaging business.
