Chinese academician Guo Huadong has been awarded the 2026 International Astronautical Federation (IAF) "Hall of Fame" Award for his lifelong dedication and outstanding contributions to the field of astronautics. The award was presented during the closing ceremony of the 77th International Astronautical Congress held in Turkey.

Central to Guo Huadong's recognition is his leadership in the development of the SDGSAT-1, the world's first science satellite dedicated to sustainable development. This satellite utilizes "light-heat-spectrum" multi-payloads for day-and-night collaborative detection, enabling detailed mapping of human activity's impact on the environment. The data collected is globally shared with 121 United Nations member states, establishing a new model for China's global satellite data services.

The IAF "Hall of Fame" Award honors top scholars who have made pioneering and lifelong contributions to the advancement of global space endeavors. Launched in November 2021, SDGSAT-1 was developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and is designed to support the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Its advanced instruments provide quantitative data on the interaction between human activities and the natural environment.
