Hailia expands technology licensing for fish side stream utilization
Food company Hailia has entered into its first licensing agreement with Kalavapriikki. The technology transforms fish side streams into food products with a lower carbon footprint than other animal proteins.

Food company Hailia has signed its first licensing agreement with Kalavapriikki. The agreement grants Kalavapriikki the rights to use Hailia's technology, which enables the transformation of fish side streams, such as gutting waste, into food products.
Hailia's developed process focuses on utilizing fish side streams. According to reports, the resulting products contain higher levels of collagen, calcium, vitamin D, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids compared to conventional filet products. The company has previously stated that products made using its process have a lower carbon footprint than any other animal protein.
This licensing agreement marks a significant step for Hailia's international growth and the dissemination of its technology. The company has previously partnered with other industry players, including Hätälä and S Group, to introduce products made from fish side streams to the market.
Hailia has received recognition for its work in various competitions and forums, including the UN Foodtech Competition and the World Circular Economy Forum, where its innovation in improving seafood resource efficiency was recognized as a key circular economy solution.
