Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site Completes Phase Two Construction
Construction for the second phase of the Hainan Commercial Aerospace Launch Center's launch zone is complete. When finished, it will join the first phase to enable 60 launch capabilities per year.
The civil engineering work for the second phase of the Hainan Commercial Aerospace Launch Center's launch zone has been completed, marking the project's transition to equipment debugging and integrated testing.
The second phase is located adjacent to the first phase in Wenchang, Hainan province, covering approximately 1100 mu (roughly 73 hectares). Upon completion, it will integrate with the existing first phase, creating a combined annual launch capacity of 60 rockets.
Key facilities in the second phase include two launch pads for liquid-propellant rockets and associated infrastructure such as a water tower. These pads are designed using a standardized "three-level" launch method, similar to the first phase. The technical area will house facilities for rocket assembly, testing, satellite testing, and encapsulation.
Compared to the first phase, the second phase had a shorter construction period and more complex site conditions. Design and construction processes were optimized, including advancements in excavation techniques and structural design modifications, to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
This expansion is expected to significantly bolster China's commercial space launch capabilities, supporting the growing demand for satellite deployment and other space missions.
