HandsFree Labs Introduces Step-In Technology to Work Boots
HandsFree Labs, the company behind Kizik's step-in sneakers, has launched a new brand, Blue Ox, to bring its hands-free footwear technology to the work boot market. The move aims to solve the inconvenience of putting on and taking off boots for tradespeople.

HandsFree Labs, the company responsible for the Kizik line of step-in sneakers, has introduced a new brand, Blue Ox, targeting the work boot industry. This expansion brings their signature hands-free technology, which allows users to slip on footwear without bending or using their hands, to a more rugged and demanding market.
Blue Ox is specifically designed to address the needs of professionals in sectors like construction and trades. According to HandsFree Labs founder Mike Pratt, the decision to create a separate brand was to establish a distinct identity. "A brand needs a core brand focus and DNA," Pratt stated, differentiating Blue Ox's focus on "hardcore professional construction workers and tradespeople" from Kizik's athletic and lifestyle positioning.
The development of the work boots was reportedly spurred by customer demand. Many Kizik sneaker wearers expressed a desire for similar convenience in their work boots, which are frequently removed and put on throughout the day and are prone to getting dirty. Jason Lee, COO of HandsFree Labs, noted that the company identified a significant opportunity to "solve a problem, a real inconvenience for tradespeople."
The name Blue Ox was chosen to reflect a strong work ethic, combining the imagery of an ox with a distinct blue personality. Like the Kizik sneakers, the Blue Ox boots have undergone rigorous durability testing, including mechanical stress tests and assessments of their construction, to ensure they meet the demands of professional use.
