Hangzhou Juntai Explains Sludge Dewatering Screw Press Operation

Hangzhou Juntai Plastic Products Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of environmental equipment, has published technical details explaining the functionality of its sludge dewatering screw press machines. The company aims to clarify the efficiency and simplicity of its equipment in wastewater treatment processes.

The screw press utilizes continuous mechanical pressure to separate liquids from solids. Key components include a hardened stainless steel screw shaft, a laser-cut stainless steel screen drum with adjustable slots, and a hydraulically controlled back pressure plate. The system is powered by a 5.5kW, IE4 efficiency motor.

The dewatering process involves five stages: sludge feeding after polymer conditioning, initial gravity drainage, compression via the screw's rotation and pitch to generate up to 12 bar of axial pressure, shear filtration through narrowing screen gaps achieving 90-95% solids capture, and cake discharge. The cake typically contains 18-35% solids.

Furthermore, the equipment features a self-cleaning mechanism employing reverse flushing nozzles to prevent screen blinding, significantly reducing the need for frequent manual intervention. The company states that less than 5 minutes of daily manual oversight is required.

Juntai contrasts its screw press technology with centrifuges and belt presses, highlighting lower energy consumption (0.8-1.2 kWh/ton compared to 3-5 kWh/ton for centrifuges), reduced noise levels (65 dB vs. 85 dB), and a smaller footprint. The company also claims lower polymer costs, approximately $0.15 per ton, compared to alternatives.
