Hangzhou seeks Hong Kong's role as gateway for global expansion
Hangzhou is deepening its collaboration with Hong Kong to facilitate international expansion for its technology firms and attract foreign investment, officials stated.
Hangzhou, China – The Hong Kong Industry Cooperation Promotion Conference & 9th Hangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Development Exchange Conference 2026, held on September 22, 2026, focused on industrial collaboration and capital matching between Hangzhou and Hong Kong.
Technology companies from Hangzhou, including Star.Vision, Sunrise, Rokid, Jinglianwen, Xynova, Nanocorechip, BIBO, and Bota Biosciences, showcased innovations ranging from robotic hands to AI chips and new medicines. These firms engaged in direct meetings with investment institutions such as PAG, Goldman Sachs, Gaorong Ventures, and Bain Capital to explore cooperation.
Hangzhou aims to support its tech companies' global reach. BIBO plans to achieve overseas mass production by 2028 and leverage Hong Kong's international capital for mergers and acquisitions. Xynova seeks to integrate international industrial resources and long-term capital to accelerate the application of its robotic hands.
Hong Kong has emerged as a significant investment source for Hangzhou. In the first eight months of 2026, Hangzhou ranked second among Chinese sub-provincial cities for actual foreign investment utilization, with over 70% originating from Hong Kong. High-tech industries accounted for over half of Hangzhou's foreign investment in 2025, rising to over 68% in the first half of this year.
A joint cooperation system, featuring a technology transfer center in Hangzhou and an innovation center in Hong Kong, has facilitated 43 projects. This collaboration solidifies Hangzhou's role as a "gateway to the sea" through Hong Kong, enabling its companies to access global markets.
