Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung (HAZ) has marked its 75th anniversary with the release of a 112-page special edition. The first issue of HAZ was published on August 25, 1949, after Erich Madsack received a license to publish a newspaper from the then-Minister President of Lower Saxony, Hinrich Wilhelm Kopf.
The anniversary publication reflects on the newspaper's journey since the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949, up to current events. HAZ has consistently mirrored and commented on society's transformations, challenges, and triumphs. The edition also provides insight into the production of professional journalism today and highlights the newspaper's deep connection to its region.
Thomas Düffert, CEO of Madsack Mediengruppe, stated that HAZ has demonstrated its capacity to adapt to change throughout its 75 years. He described HAZ as more than just a daily newspaper or a digital news service, emphasizing its connection to the local population, support for the Christmas aid charity, and engagement with readers through talk events.
The special edition features numerous articles delving into the newspaper's rich history and its role within the region. It offers detailed accounts of local developments and their impact over the decades.
