Eva Schulz and Jan Lorenzen will share the Hanns-Joachim-Friedrichs Prize for their contributions to critical television journalism. The jury recognized their work in political reporting and their examination of societal issues.
The jury, chaired by Sandra Maischberger, focused this year on domestic politics. Schulz was honored for her years of political reporting, including her work on the ZDF series "Deutschland, warum bist Du so?". Lorenzen was recognized for his documentaries "Wir waren in der AfD – Aussteiger berichten" and "Die große Angst: Zukunft in Ostdeutschland," which addressed political developments and societal divisions in Germany.
An additional special prize was awarded to Fabian Köster and Lutz van der Horst for their "heute-show spezial: Zwei Besserwessis im Osten," which used satire to examine election campaigns. Furthermore, a new grant was presented to freelance journalist Paul Schwenn for his meticulous and wide-ranging journalistic work.
The award ceremony, hosted by Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), is scheduled for November 14 in Hamburg. A discussion titled "Vierte Gewalt als Feindbild - Journalismus in Zeiten des Misstrauens" (The Fourth Estate as a Bogeyman - Journalism in Times of Mistrust) will follow. NDR Television will broadcast a recording of the gala on the same evening.
