The hardware design puzzle game "How to Build Your First GPU" has released its trial version on the Steam platform, according to a report by IT Home. The demo is currently available for free download, with the full version slated for release in the first quarter of 2027.

The game allows players to construct GPU circuits without requiring prior professional GPU knowledge. Basic understanding of mathematics or programming is sufficient. Each level provides a target graphic and basic components like comparators, adders, and registers. Players connect these components to see their circuit render the target graphic pixel by pixel, enabling them to build a complete GPU from scratch.

Developers emphasize that the game simulates real hardware logic, omitting loops and functions common in software. Players must implement repetitive and parallel operations using hardware units. The game features error visualization, highlighting incorrect pixels and allowing players to return to the erroneous cycle for debugging. Performance scoring is based on area, delay, and cycle count, with the best score for each level being saved.

The trial version includes the first two acts, guiding players from lighting up half a screen to rendering a rotating 3D cube. The full version plans to add more levels covering advanced topics such as acceleration, texturing, and programmable shader cores. AI tools were used to assist in the creation of the game's art and music. The trial version supports simplified Chinese interface and subtitles.
